Alphabet Soup Illustrator

At the same time as doing our design skills module, we've been having illustrator inductions, which for me were much needed.

We began with basics, such as creating curves, and learning to trace.

After learning what about the other tools, such as creating different shapes like clouds, and filling in images we create with colour, we began on our illustrator brief, which was to take one of our letters from the Alphabet Soup Part 1, and to create an alphabet based around it.

I chose one of my Ns which was created using lines that decreased in weight, as it was one of the more successful letters I created, and also because I felt like it would be quite challenging to recreate.

To create the letters on illustrator was quite difficult.
First, I had to use the blend tool to create the effect of the lines disappearing, which took a few attempts, and ended up looking like this.

I then had to use the pen tool to create the shape of the letter, then select  the whole image, and then using command and right click, I selected make clipping mask, which left me with just the letter filled in with the lines.

Then, it was a just a case of using copy and paste to create the alphabet onto the A1 poster, which I have now ended up with.

I may make some adjustments to it before the module deadline, as I can see a few minor flaws in the letters, but overall I'm very happy with the way I've created and presented it.

I thought that yellow and black worked best, because visually it appeared more as if the letters were dissolving, and it's also very bold and eye catching.

I'm also very happy with the glyphs, and feel this looks a lot different from the more hand drawn and illustrative work I've been doing.
